Legionella Management at Carn Brea Leisure Centre

Based in the heart of Pool, Redruth, Cornwall. It provides a valued community leisure centre to over 600,000 visitors a year.

The centre offers an all-weather athletics track, a 25 metre pool, a gym and fitness classes. It also has facilities for indoor sports such as badminton, squash, football and netball. Together, the Trust provides a high quality, cost effective leisure facility.

Scientific Services assists with Legionella and asbestos management at the leisure centre.

Legionella Risk Assessment

The Trust appointed Scientific Services to complete a Legionella risk assessment. We attended site at an agreed time. This ensured that the duty holder was present for an interview. It also enabled Carn Brea’s team to arrange access in advance of our visit.

Once on site, we traced the centre’s pipework and created schematic drawings of their system. Using calibrated equipment, we measured the water temperature throughout. Our team also identified any deficiencies within their water system.

Once the assessment was complete our Legionella technical team put together a report. The risk assessment’s tabular summary highlights the key information and recommendations. This makes interpreting the report a simple and quick process.

We uploaded Carn Brea’s risk assessment to our customer portal. This cloud based system provides access to their records at any time, from any location. The portal also provides a logging system for monitoring data and corrective actions. This reduces the time their team spend on administration and enables Carn Brea to focus on providing a vibrant leisure centre. It also protects in the event of a HSE inspection as the Trust will have complete records to support them.

Our comprehensive training and support package has enabled the Trust’s team to use the portal effectively.

We know that managing Legionella is not a one off, isolated activity. Scientific Services’ expert team are available to advise and support Carn Brea whenever needed. In addition, their portal dashboard will continue to highlight any Legionella risks at the Centre, as and when they occur.
