Asbestos Management Survey

CCP contacted Scientific Services after our services were recommended to them. An initial consultation and assessment of their needs confirmed that a management survey would suitably update their records. This provided an up to date asbestos register and assessed the risks that any asbestos identified at the site presented.

Their operations on site are time critical, so a convenient date and time to complete the works were agreed. This minimised any potential disruption and ensured business as usual.

The survey report produced included a number of recommendations. Our technical team highlighted that it was advisable to urgently remove some damaged asbestos cement from an electrical cupboard. The health and safety of employees and visitors is a priority at CCP’s site in Bissoe. Once in receipt of this information, their team swiftly appointed Scientific Services to project manage the removal of these items.

Asbestos Removal Project

The first step for our project management team was to invite contractors on our approved, licensed asbestos removal supplier listing to tender for the work. The quotations received were assessed against a number of variables, including, price and availability.

Scientific Services supervised all works on site and following the removal carried out a visual inspection and reassurance air testing. This ensured that all the required asbestos cement has been removed from the area. It also confirmed that the fibre concentration levels in the air were below the clearance indicator. An industry standard that it used to determine if an area is safe to reoccupy. On completion of the air testing we provided copies of all site hand over documentation to CCP.

On-going Support

Following the asbestos removal project, CCP’s asbestos register needed to be updated and our technical team were on hand to guide them through this process. We will also contact CCP when their next re-inspection survey is required.

“Using Scientific Services meant that throughout the process we only had one point of contact from initial survey, through to final sign off. This meant we could focus on our core business activities and we were assured that the appointed contractors held the required prerequisites for completing the works.” Calum Kendal, Cornish Concrete Products Ltd.
