Asbestos Removal Project

The Trust commissioned an asbestos survey which identified asbestos containing materials. Understanding their duties under the Control of Asbestos Regulations (CAR) 2012, the team at Carn Brea sought advice from Scientific Services.

Our team attended site, assessed the area and collected a sample for testing. It was transported to our UKAS accredited asbestos laboratory in Scorrier. Within an hour, we had completed the needed asbestos test. After further discussions, the Trust decided to remove the asbestos from their site.

Carn Brea appointed Scientific Services to manage the removals process for them. This enabled their team to continue to focus on providing excellent leisure facilities. Our specialist consultant drew up a job specification, then invited approved sub-contractors to tender for the work. Our team independently scored each proposal; based on predetermined criteria. We provided this information in a clear, tabular format to the Trust’s management team. The information was easy to understand. It informed their appointment of the most suitable contractor.

Scientific Services arranged the pre-removal meetings, managed the site setup and supervised the asbestos removal. Our management service ensured that the project completed on time and in budget. Perhaps more importantly, we ensured that the contractors adopted best practice working techniques. Once the works were complete, we completed a four stage clearance. This independent, UKAS accredited assessment certified that the area was safe to re-occupy.

Carn Brea Leisure Centre is busy from 6.00am through to closing at 10.00pm. We arranged for the removal works to be completed over-night. This minimised disruption and enabled the centre to enjoy business as usual.
