History and role

Tim graduated from Kings College, London with a BSc (Hons) in Microbiology. In 1990, he then secured the position of a Research Associate at Bristol University. Whilst in this post, he completed a PhD that assessed the effect of pollutants on the upper respiratory tract. Next, in 1993, he secured a promotion into the role of a Research Fellow. 

After achieving Chartered Biologist status, in 1998, Tim took the post of Microbiology Module Leader at the University of Exeter’s Camborne School of Mines. He lectured and managed many students’ courses.

In 2002, Tim set up a microbiology and asbestos laboratory; he founded the company Scientific Services Ltd. Tim is the Technical Manager for all of our asbestos testing and consultancy services. He also oversees our Legionella, anthrax and lead consultancy services. As our Managing Director, he manages the company’s business plans, strategies and personnel.

Tim is an industry expert in four areas:

  • Expert in the technical aspects of asbestos. CoCa qualified, he has successfully managed asbestos projects and laboratories for over 18 years.
  • Expert in the technical aspects of Legionella management.
  • Expert in the effect of pollutants on the respiratory tract.
  • Expert in the chemical and heat treatment of clinical waste.

Tim has served as a board member for the British Measurement and Testing Association (BMTA). The association is a prominent forum for technical management of laboratories. It aims to educate and promote best practice techniques.

Personal interests

Tim has been a member of Porthtowan Surf Life Saving Club since he was 16, when he qualified as a beach life guard. Now with his guarding days behind him, he assists with training the younger members. He is a keen swimmer and trains most days in preparation for outdoor marathon swim events. Tim has participated in local events such as the Castle to Castle Swim in Falmouth. Sometimes going further afield and taking part in the New York Coney Island New Year’s swim.

Tim is a keen biker with an interest in modern classic cafe racer styled bikes. He is an advanced fleet bike rider for Cornwall Blood Bikes and a member of the Cornwall Advanced Motorcyclists.

In any spare time, he likes to spend time with his family and enjoying trips abroad.
